ENGLISH 9TH

                                             DAFFODILS

                               “The earth laughs in flowers.”

Wordsworth is a lover of nature. The main theme of his poems is natural beauty and serenity. While reading his poems a reader actually finds him sometimes among the woods, sometimes boating in a lake, sometimes enjoying the company of flowers etc. That is why he is also known as Poet of Nature. This poem is also one of his famous poems.

The poet was wandering aimlessly in the countryside. He came across a large number of golden daffodils beside a lake and under the trees. They were dancing in the breeze with joy. The waves in the lake were also dancing happily. But the beauty and dance of the daffodils was par excellence.  They were large in number like the stars in the sky. It was a lovely sight. The poet was so delighted that his all worry and anxiety disappeared at once. He felt as light as a feather. He kept on watching them for a long time and returned with a great wealth of their sweet memory.

“Nature is the art of God.”

This scene became a permanent source of comfort for him onwards. Whenever, he felt lonely or sad, this scene appeared on his inward eye and all his loneliness vanished.

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

                           And dances with the daffodils.

ESSAY 10

MY HOUSE

“Home is not a place it is a feeling”.

Blessings of God are innumerable and unlimited, and a house of your own is also one of them. Life becomes meaningful and valuable when you own a house. Dreams and desires turn into reality. Joys know no bounds. Peace and comfort touch the height of skies. Indeed, a house of your own is a great reward in the present era.

I am lucky that I have my own house in the centre of the city. My father got it built under his own supervision. Material of high quality was used in the best proportion in its construction. It has two storeys. All the rooms are well-lit, airy, capacious and carpeted. My mother is very strict in keeping the house clean. She has employed two maids to assist her to keep the house clean. A little lawn in the house adds to its grace. Its lush green grass with various colourful flowers looks very charming. The fragrance of  roses, lilies, and daffodils refreshes the inside atmosphere of the house. We, all family members, daily take our evening tea in the company of flowers in our lawn. It is my responsibility to look after the lawn, and I do my job quite handsomely. Although our guests are entertained in the drawing room, however, they also like to spend some time in our lawn.  We park our car and bikes in the porch. Our main gate made of iron and painted in blue gives our house a look of a palace.  A guard actively performs his duty at the main gate from morning till evening. He, not only, guards the house but also opens and closes the gate as someone leaves or enters the house. I find myself feeling safe and loved in my house.

The ache for home lives in all of us”.

ESSAY 10

                                               COURTESY

Good manners keep the machinery of life oiled.

Man is a tender creature with soft feelings. He loves and wants to be loved. Words and manners play a key role in winning or losing hearts of people. That’s why it is said, “Think before you speak”.  Courtesy means showing good manners and polite behaviour with a selection of kindest words. It is the most prominent trait of a human being. Its source is kindness and affection. It costs nothing but pays a lot in return. It is an act of civility. It is great virtue in man’s life. It demands us to be modest and decent in our words and deeds.                               One who shows courtesy is called a courteous person. Such a person is liked, loved and respected by everyone everywhere. He remains popular among his friends and relatives. As he is ever ready to help others, in the same way, everyone wants to be the first in helping him if he is in need. It demands us to be helpful to everyone. If we are in a bus or train, we should offer our seat to some elderly or sick person. If we find someone unable to cross a busy road, we should make him cross the road. If we come across a little child who has lost his way, we should ensure his safe meeting with his parents. In short, there are a number of little kind deeds that can make our life comfortable and our world a heaven.                                                                                                        Every religion teaches courtesy. Courtesy is the tool which turns a foe into a bosom friend. Therefore, it must be taught in schools at priority level. Teachers can play an effective role in making the children courteous because students give much importance to their teachers. A society of courteous people is, in fact, a piece of paradise on the earth. According to a hadith,

“The best amongst you is the one whose manners are the best”.
