DAFFODILS
“The earth laughs in flowers.”
Wordsworth is a lover of nature. The main theme of his poems is natural beauty and serenity. While reading his poems a reader actually finds him sometimes among the woods, sometimes boating in a lake, sometimes enjoying the company of flowers etc. That is why he is also known as Poet of Nature. This poem is also one of his famous poems.
The poet was wandering aimlessly in the countryside. He came across a large number of golden daffodils beside a lake and under the trees. They were dancing in the breeze with joy. The waves in the lake were also dancing happily. But the beauty and dance of the daffodils was par excellence. They were large in number like the stars in the sky. It was a lovely sight. The poet was so delighted that his all worry and anxiety disappeared at once. He felt as light as a feather. He kept on watching them for a long time and returned with a great wealth of their sweet memory.
“Nature is the art of God.”
This scene became a permanent source of comfort for him onwards. Whenever, he felt lonely or sad, this scene appeared on his inward eye and all his loneliness vanished.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
